12 December 2018. NEW JAPANESE WRECK LOCATED IN TRUK LAGOON

Just back from a couple of weeks diving the famous Japanese WWII wreck at Truk Lagoon in the Pacific, the world's greatest collection of Japanese wartime shipwrecks. It has been quite a long time since a new WWII wreck was located in the lagoon, but I was priviledged to be taken out by Truk Stop Dive Centre

Just back from a long weekend in Orkney filming with a french TV company about the Scapa Flow wrecks for a documentary series on shipwrecks around the world. These guys were hard core - they did The Big Blue with Jean Reno and have worked on Titanic - much respect! 

 
16 October 2018. Shipwrecks of Scapa Flow chart available again

A few years ago I had a unique A1 size full colour chart of Scapa Flow professionally created by the artist who has created all my shipwreck illustrations for me over the years, not just in Scapa Flow but also in Truk, Palau etc. The Scapa shipwreck illustrations were added to the chart in the correct locations with some text about the indivdual wrecks and the Scapa story as a whole. The resulting chart is stunning - and is currently on public display outside the Ferry Terminal in Stromness.

Public Appearances

Rod is available to speak at shipwreck, diving, corporate or team building/motivational events. He has presented to major events such as the annual NAS International Shipwreck Conference, BSAC Diver Conferences, Scottish Sub Aqua Club (SSAC) Conferences and many other larger events but also enjoys presenting to smaller local interest groups around his own north east of Scotland. As a lifeboatman himself he gives talks to raise funds for the RNLI as well as his local MRI lifeboat station in Stonehaven. Rod will be presenting about the new edition of Dive Scapa Flow (and including some of the incredible new imagery from Prof Chris Rowland of Dundee University) at his local dive store Core94 (formerly Aberdeen Watersports) at 35 Waterloo Quay, Aberdeen. A stock of books will be available for purchase and signing after the presentation.

 

Kick off is 1830. Talk will be about 45 minutes and then Rod will reveal some of the footage and results from the HMS Hampshire 100th anniversary survey expedition last June.

22 September 2016. Gourdon Mission Hall talk WWI U-boat losses of the NE Coast.

Presenting about WWI U-boat losses around the north east coast of Scotland as part of the commemorations to mark the 100th anniversary of the capture and scuttle of the Montrose tralwer Bella by U 64 on 25 Septemner 1916. The crew were taken prisoner and spent the rest of the war in Germany only being repatriated at war's end.
